Rita’s Question
Rita’s Question
Hi Rita, Gina Grey thank you for your email. Your question today, was kind of vague so I’m going to try to answer it the best way that I can. You said that you have an offline business, a retail store, I believe for eight years and you had a hard time competing with online companies. I’m confused. Did you mean that you are trying to compete with Macy’s or Target or a chain store like that? Yes that would be a little hard and I can see your point there. If you’re in a local hometown I don’t see that it would be a problem getting your store pretty much on page one or page two of Google for your search terms.
The key would be finding out what would be your main specialty that you sold was a doing a search possibly on Google Key Word Tool to see if in fact there are searches for your type of business or retail store that you had. Then it would just be some simple search engine optimization. I also don’t know if you are having a hang up or problem with doing online e-commerce. If you did add that to your website or you did not add it? If you did, obviously that can be huge for you to be able to sell online and do shipping.
But, like I said, your question was so vague on that you just had trouble competing with online stores. Like I said, if you are local it would be very easy to get to the top of the desired key words with simple, correct search engine optimization. And if you wanted to add e-commerce that would be great. One of our clients owns a British store where she has teas, and marmalades and all kinds of things. She has a website and she does e-commerce and she ships to all over the country. People that come into her store from different countries will when they go back home go onto her website and reorder over and over and over again.
If it’s clothing, that can be a little hard especially if the sizes are not right or whatever. But if you have an accessory type store, then I don’t think that it would be too much of a problem. What would be important is to A) get your site to the top of the search engines for your key words, B) get the online store running really really well, C) would be getting the email addresses and contacting everybody that comes into the store and everybody that hits your website. So that you can constantly send them out emails every one to two weeks with a different special or different sale that you may be hosting.
So, like I said, I hope this answers your question. I did the best that I could. I hope this helps you out. Thank you, this is Gina Grey. Hope to see you soon. Bye bye.
